Readiness
How do you know you are actually ready for marriage?
It is a question asked often and answered by feel — "when I feel ready". Feelings shift; a decision should not. Here are five signs you can measure rather than feel.

1. You know what you will not give up
Readiness is not unlimited flexibility. People who do not know their red lines discover them after the contract, when turning back has become costly. Write down three things you will not accept otherwise, and three you are open to discussing — and if you cannot name the first three, you have not thought it through yet.
2. You can describe your day after the wedding
Someone preparing for marriage imagines the life, not the celebration. Where will you live? Who works, and who looks after what? How are expenses shared, and who decides? If the answer is vague, the readiness is just as vague.
Being ready means knowing what you want — not having no expectations at all.
3. You have settled the money question
You do not need to be wealthy; you need to know your numbers: income, commitments, savings and the ceiling you will not go past. Marriage does not fix shaky finances — it exposes them faster than you expect.
4. You can hold a disagreement without walking away
Disagreement is not a sign of poor compatibility; withdrawing from it is. Look at your recent disagreements with family or colleagues: do they end in conversation, or in long silence? What you do there, you will do here.
5. Your decision is yours; family are partners, not proxies
Involving your family is a strength; handing them the decision is a weakness. Someone ready for marriage consults, then decides — and does not decide just to please.
Readiness is never complete, and it is not worth waiting for it to be. It is enough to know where you stand, and to be honest about what you bring to the person in front of you.
